alt.guitar.bass Makes Bass Player Magazine!

In the May 2002 edition - the one with Bill Laswell on the cover - BPM did a piece on the agb/PL1 story. It read as follows...

"FANBASS
The online community of www.altguitarbass.com recently got together to show their appreciation for its unofficial moderator, Lynda Whitehead of Gloucester, UK. Since Lynda's online identity is Purple Linny, it only seemed natural that they would build her a purple bass! Purchased with the contributions of the newsgroup's members, the 5-string bass features a Warmoth body with a figured-maple top, Allparts hardware, active electronics and "Purple Linny" screened into the headstock. Congratulations, Lynda!"

The PL1 Lowdown

The Purple Linny signature bass was made possible by members of alt.guitar.bass and built by Bud LeCompte. This was by way of a 'thank you' for the efforts that have gone into the website that you are looking at right now.

The Warmoth body is a deluxe 5 swamp ash with a quilted maple top. The neck is maple with a pau ferro fingerboard. Dye job by Warmoth - a purple dye was rubbed into the grain then clear coated with urethane. It was then color sanded and rubbed out to make it shiny. Bud applied the purple "Purple Linny" logo on the headstock, then clear coated and hand rubbed the neck. Assembled, tweaked and setup by Bud. Played by Linny.
